Repurposing of a non-designated heritage asset
The original building dates from the 1800s and was originally used as a school, then became a medical centre in the 1980s. St Johns Medical centre sits between a Grade II listed St Johns Church and a row of 20th Century maisonettes. The objective is to create a residential development that upholds the site's heritage status, improves the Conservation Area, and preserves the setting of the asset.

This ongoing project to deliver St. Johns, Enabl so far has played a crucial part in the progress of the Non-Designated heritage asset, a project that demanded meticulous planning and attention to detail. The objective was to retain a significant portion of the existing building while incorporating a new basement into the design. This tricky process required the Enabl team to navigate a complex set of challenges, including architectural coordination, retainment of structural integrity and preserving historical value of the asset.
As Contract Administrator working on an amended Prime Cost Building Contract, Enabl played a crucial role in ensuring that the bespoke contract effectively met the project's requirements and to facilitate a smooth delivery.

After careful planning, co-ordination, and extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, the efforts of the project team, including Enabl, have culminated in securing a contractor who is now actively involved marking a major step towards realising the vision of the scheme. This achievement showcases the successful navigation of the pre-construction phase, including design development and procurement. With the project now progressing on site, St. Johns Medical Centre is well on its way to becoming a reality, reinforcing the commitment of all involved.
